About Me

Hi, I’m Ben — a psychologist registered with AHPRA since 2014. I’m based in Sydney, Australia.

Before my registration as a psychologist, I worked in business development within Australia’s financial services sector. At 30, I left that career behind and went back to university.

I graduated from the Jansen Newman Institute in 2009 with a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and worked as a psychotherapist registered with PACFA from that time.

I graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) (Honours) in 2012.

It wasn’t the obvious path — going back to university after a career in finance was a serious commitment. I made that decision very mindfully, and it has shaped how I work with clients: practical, structured, and genuinely invested in whether something is actually helping.

My work experience

Since starting my therapeutic career, I have worked in several places, including:

  • The AIDS Council of NSW (ACON), where I provided individual therapy in their volunteer counselling service and co-facilitated a men's group
  • The Sydney Clinic, a private psychiatric hospital, where I led inpatient psychoeducation groups and outpatient DBT skills groups
  • The DBT Psychology Clinic, a private clinic dedicated to DBT, where I co-facilitated DBT skills groups and provided individual therapy
  • Private practice

How I work

My practice is grounded primarily in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), alongside other evidence-based approaches. You can read more about how I work on the Approach page.
